Qflow Launches Dynamic Integration with Building Transparency’s EC3 Tool for Real-Time As-Built Carbon Data Reporting

Qflow is thrilled to announce a groundbreaking integration with nonprofit Building Transparency’s Embodied Carbon in Construction Calculator (EC3), revolutionising how construction teams track and report as-built carbon data. This powerful collaboration connects on-site material quantity data with Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) to deliver accurate, real-time calculations of embodied carbon during the construction process.

In recent years, the construction industry has made strides in using EC3 and similar tools to estimate the embodied carbon of new building designs. These assessments are crucial for identifying opportunities to reduce carbon emissions and improve the sustainability of new structures. However, the game is changing. The focus is now shifting towards accurately measuring the as-built carbon impact of buildings, providing a true reflection of the carbon footprint from construction through completion.

One of the significant challenges in this area has been capturing precise data on the actual materials used on-site. Enter Qflow: with its innovative approach, construction teams can effortlessly capture material data by simply photographing delivery receipts or tickets. This user-friendly solution ensures high accuracy and reliability in tracking as-built material quantities.

Now, with the direct integration of Qflow into EC3, construction teams can seamlessly transfer this data to calculate the as-built embodied carbon impact throughout a project’s lifecycle. This integration not only enhances data accuracy but also empowers teams with actionable insights to validate and compare against initial design estimates.

“This integration is a game-changer for the construction industry, bridging the critical gap between designed and as-built carbon data. We are thrilled to partner with Building Transparency to provide the industry with greater access to vital material and environmental data,” said Jade Cohen, CPO of Qflow.

With this integration, construction teams can now depend on Qflow and EC3 to verify as-built embodied carbon and benchmark it against design projections. This capability addresses the growing demand for detailed as-built carbon reporting, offering invaluable data on the environmental impact of any changes made during construction.

“Industry-wide collaboration is critical if we are to make meaningful progress toward decarbonizing the built environment sector,” said Stacy Smedley, Executive Director of Building Transparency. “Partnering with Qflow is a natural fit for us as we endeavour to support the development of tools that drive embodied carbon reduction. This integration and its ability to measure as-built carbon impacts will be hugely influential for teams as they look to set carbon reduction goals for their projects and measure their progress.”

For the industry, we hope that connecting these data sets will enable quicker action towards Net Zero goals. If you’re interested in trying this integration out for yourselves, please reach out to info@qualisflow.com.

About Building Transparency:

Building Transparency is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides open-access data and tools that support broad and swift action across the building industry in addressing embodied carbon’s role in climate change. Formed in 2020, Building Transparency hosts manages and maintains the Embodied Carbon in Construction Calculator (EC3) tool, which provides thousands of digitized EPDs in a free, open-source database, and tallyLCA, the nonprofit’s life cycle assessment tool. Building Transparency strives to provide the resources and education necessary to shape a better building future through promoting the adoption of the EC3 tool and tallyLCA, establishing the official materialsCAN and ownersCAN program, and working with global policymakers.

This press release heralds a new era in sustainable construction practices. Qflow and Building Transparency are committed to leading the industry toward a future where accurate as-built carbon reporting is the norm, ensuring that sustainability goals are met from design to completion.
